Evening Catch

One of the more spectacular things that I have been fortunate to witness in nature is brown bears and the salmon run! It’s difficult to put into words what it is like to be laying on the bank of a river, or half submerged within the river, as a large grizzly bear fishes. Witnessing before your very eyes a coastal brown bear in a full-on charge through the water with nothing but salmon on the brain! Seeing a 1000-1500 lb bear charging through the water like a hot knife through butter is a humbling experience. So much power it’s almost as if there is zero resistance to its movement. Every bear has its own fishing style, some for example, take a much lazier approach and use a lot less energy. They simply wait in one position for a salmon to come past within reach. Others charge through the water with a reckless abandon, while some of the more tactful chargers lock in on their target and charge with purpose! The sight of massive a bear displacing water and salmon scattering is one of the most exciting interactions within nature to bear witness to!
