Photographed in the early morning as the sun crested over the top of the riverbank, ‘Bear Necessities’ is one of my personal favourites. The bear pictured here is of ‘Myron’, a familiar face in this region of the Alaska Peninsula. I have this one hanging on my own wall. It is when moments like these unfold, that make me proud of my photographic skill set.  Knowing how to utilize my camera settings to create unique images with the ambient light that Mother Nature provides. It is moments like this that remind me of how it was worth going on five hours of sleep a night, for ten straight nights camping on the tundra. Moments like this remind me why it was worth waking at five o’clock in the morning each day, in the near freezing temperatures to climb out of my sleeping bag and ready myself to tackle another eighteen-hour day. Its moments like this that remind me why it was worth hiking with a fifty-pound backpack of gear, for over an hour from camp and back each day.  And moments like this remind me how much I love bears.
